The Master Brewers Series ended with Burlington, Vermont’s Zero Gravity Beer Company. We sat down with Co-Founder and BrewMaster, Matt Wilson to learn the story behind Zero Gravity’s start and their brews.
Wilson attributes his start in the beer industry to destiny. At 18, Wilson attended the University of Wisconsin. He studied pre-med and played football, but he found this path wasn’t for him. He transferred and settled on a smaller school in Vermont. After graduating he took his passion for beer and started Zero Gravity with his business partner, which now has a brewpub, brewery & tasting hall in Burlington.
The vision for Zero Gravity was to create a good craft beer that focused on drinkability and balance. The goal was to incorporate different flavors and styles in the beer, while ensuring that it kept a quality beer taste. Wilson understood that other craft brewers were going to create beers that were focused on strong hops or unique flavors. Wilson believes that Zero Gravity separates themselves from other craft breweries by focusing on having a friendly craft beer.
What’s Wilson’s favorite beer? He said that Zero Gravity’s Green State Lager will always hold a special place in his heart. Named after his home state of Wisconsin, it is one of the first beer’s that was sold outside of the brew pub. He wanted to create a pilsner beer that did not completely resemble a Czech or German pilsner. The Green State Lager is a beer that reminds the drinker of a sense of home.
